19 Photos Showing A Majestic Black Panther Roaming Through the Jungles Of India

Shaaz Jung is an Indian wildlife photographer and cinematographer who has dedicated his life to tracking and studying leopards in South India. Despite studying Economics at Utrecht University in Europe, the man decided not to pursue a corporate career and instead followed in his father Saad Bin Jung’s footsteps, who had also quit a career in cricket to become a conservationist.

Not that long ago, Shaaz shared some impressive photos of the elusive black panther he spotted in Kabini Forest in Karnataka, India, and they perfectly highlight what majestic creatures they are. See the pictures in the gallery below!

In a recent interview with Bored Panda, the photographer said he spent two and a half years (from December 2017 until January 2020) in the Kabini Forest making a documentary on the black panther for National Geographic. Shaaz says that every day was like an adventure into the unknown and that capturing footage of the black panther was one of the toughest projects he worked on.

“This black panther is a leopard with an abundance of melanin. Unlike other cats in the Kabini Forest, there is only one black panther,” explained the photographer. He says that is what made it much more difficult to photograph. And even though a few photographers have captured photos of this elusive animal in the past, Shaaz’s team is the first one to make a dedicated movie on it.

Shaaz called the whole project “an incredible journey” and thanked the Karnataka Forest Department for protecting the forest in which this majestic animal lives. “Their hard work enables us to catch glimpses of these beautiful animals that are thriving in our Indian forests,” added the photographer.
