Stunning Wood-Carved Sculptures That Look Like People And Objects Are Trapped Inside

Taiwanese artist Tung Ming-Chin created stunning wood-carved sculptures that look like people and objects are trapped inside. Tung is a master of transforming wood into pensive, emotive sculptures. His smoothly polished pieces transform as the viewer moves around them, slowly revealing surprises. Often dealing with themes of inner emotion and the subconscious mind, his sculptures regularly show figures trapped within the wood, pressing themselves against the outer layer in an attempt to break free.

In his words about these creations “Metaphor is an interpretation of the inner space and an expression of imagination. It can not be easily classified as a state of mind with shapes, like feelings, the poetic, time, the conceptual, and the non-visual. It is free imagination that releases the consciousness and explores the world of sub-consciousness. It is a specific state concealing under a hidden space. By covering the inner, certain details will be concealed and simplified. It can be appreciated from an abstract aesthetic point of view.”
