Owl Mistook A Duck’s Egg For Its Own And Ended Up Being The Mother To A Duckling

The animal world is truly wonderful and fascinating. We all have studied that animals are ferocious and that they mercilessly feed on one another for survival. But, a closer look at the bonds animals shares with one another will show you that they also are bound to one another with love and affection. Their instincts might lead them to hunt others who are different from them but there have also been instances where these instincts were suppressed by the power of love and affection.

It is not a secret that a mother’s love cannot be compared with anything. Only a mother knows how her heart beats for her kids and they would never think twice even to sacrifice their lives for the sake of their children. The story that we are going to share with you is not about a human mom but about an owl mom who tried to become a mother to a duckling.

This owl mom of our story decided to make a nest in the garden of Laurie Wolf who lives in Florida. It happened to be that Laurie was a photographer and she was much intrigued by this owl who decided to take abode in her garden. Being a photographer, Laurie was naturally observant and one day, the owl took her by surprise when she noticed a little duckling beside the owl. At first, she thought it was a baby owl but when observed, Laurie understood that was not an owl but a duckling.

However, Laurie was advised by a bird expert to remove the duckling from the owl nest as owls sometimes feed on young ducks. However, the duckling moved out to a pond nearby on its own accord and Laurie thinks that the duckling must have heard its actual mother’s call.

Christian Artuso, the director from the Bird Studies Canada mentioned that “it is not commonly documented but it does happen for sure. Sometimes female ducks would lay eggs or two in the nest of another duck or another closely related species”.

However, we felt that this incident shows another beautiful side of the animal world and we hope you might love this beautiful incident too!
