The Hulk in Real Life – Mark Ruffalo hid Brain Tumor news from his Pregnant Wife to not give her any stress

We’re sure most of our readers have scene a movie or two from the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) – especially their highest-grossing “Avengers: Endgame.” Mark Ruffalo is best known for his role as The Hulk in the colossal blockbuster series. But while he plays The Hulk on the big screen, his real-life persona doesn’t sway far from his character. Today’s incredible story is about how he protected his wife from stress while she was pregnant.

Mark Ruffalo had a difficult childhood. As a child, he had to battle with undiagnosed dyslexia and ADD. But one thing Mark had was courage – he never let anything bring him down or stop him from going forward. He carried the same strength and angst to protect his wife when he received some pretty horrifying news about his health.

Sunrise Coigney, Mark’s wife, was pregnant with their first child. One night, Mark had a nightmare that he would have a brain tumor. Being worried about it, he went to get it checked. After a CT scan, it was revealed that his dream was accurate – he had a tumor below his left ear. Mark, then and there, decided to keep this news to himself and not to let his wife know anything about it to avoid any complications with her first pregnancy.

While speaking to Men’s Journal, Mark said:

“I was certain I was going to die,”

“I made a tape for him. For when he was old enough to understand. Just saying, Hey, this is who I am.”

After a few months of keeping things to him – he revealed the news to his entire family when his first child, Keen, was born. Mark soon went into surgery, which made the left side of his face paralyzed, and his left ear had a loss of hearing.

According to MensXP, Mark said this about his recovery:

“Recovery really tested what I was made of as a man,”

He continued:

“Whatever your mind tells you is a limit is a lie; limitations are lies we tell ourselves”

“Those places where you find resistance in yourself, that’s where growth happens”

It was a tough time for Mark to completely recover from this traumatizing experience and get back into acting. He had difficulty balancing himself, along with a lot of other problems. But fate was on his side as he slowly got back on his feet – thanks to that undying strength of his.

Mark later starred in The Avengers in 2012 – a movie that made him instantly rise to the top due to his alter-ego persona of a simple man, mild-mannered man, who transforms into a beast when he’s angered. His acting was flawless. Mark and his wife share three beautiful children – their marriage has lasted for more than a decade.

We wish this real-life superhero nothing but the best for the future and hope he keeps motivating us to achieve our goals regardless of the kind of obstacles life throws at us!
